Service area

New York

From landmarked brownstones in Brooklyn to curtain wall on new Manhattan towers, New York asks more of a window than almost anywhere else we work, and asks it of nine distinct service areas.

What New York buildings demand

New York runs the full range in a single state. Downstate you are working against street noise, a heating season that starts in November, humid summers, and, on Long Island and the outer boroughs, coastal wind and driven rain. Upstate adds real snow load and a longer, colder winter.

The building stock is just as varied. Pre-war brownstones and townhouses have out-of-square masonry openings that no stock window fits. Post-war multifamily needs thermal performance retrofitted into a facade that was never designed for it. New construction is increasingly glass, and increasingly accountable for its energy use: larger buildings in New York City now carry emissions limits that make glazing performance a compliance question rather than a preference.

How we build for it

Thermally broken aluminum with multi-chamber profiles and warm-edge triple glazing handles the heating season without the frame becoming the weak point. Tilt-and-turn hardware gives secure night ventilation on a street-facing opening. And because every frame is fabricated to the measured opening rather than ordered from a size chart, a landmarked facade keeps its sightlines.
