Passive house windows, fabricated in Brooklyn.
Passive House is the strictest energy standard a building can be built to, and windows are where most projects lose it. We fabricate triple-glazed, high-performance aluminum window systems engineered for exactly that target, locally, so the schedule doesn't depend on a container.
The weakest part of the envelope.
A well-built wall assembly is comfortably ahead of code. A window is a hole in that wall filled with glass and metal, and it's where heat leaves. Get the glazing build-up and the frame wrong and no amount of insulation elsewhere recovers it.
Passive House thinking pushes on three things at once: the glass, the frame, and the junction between them. Triple glazing with low-E coatings and inert gas fill handles the first. A properly thermally broken profile handles the second. Getting the unit built to the opening, rather than shimmed into it, handles the third.
Triple glazing as the baseline
Three panes, two cavities, low-E coatings and inert gas fill, the specification passive projects start from rather than upgrade to.
Deep thermal break
A wider insulating barrier through the profile than a standard system carries, because the target is materially stricter than code.
Built to the opening
The junction between frame and wall is where passive details fail. A unit made to the measured opening removes most of that risk.
MB-104 Passive.
Aluprof's passive-standard aluminum window and door system, fabricated here on the same floor as everything else we build. Deep profiles, triple glazing, and the thermal performance a passive target requires.
Not only certified Passive House.
Most projects that specify these systems aren't pursuing certification, they're trying to hit an energy target, a Local Law 97 threshold, or simply a building that costs less to run. The system doesn't care which.
New York's energy requirements are among the strictest in the country. A window package that can't demonstrate its performance isn't a specification problem; it's an approval problem.
The short version.
Send us the target.
Passive house questions.
No. Most projects specifying them are chasing an energy target or a Local Law 97 threshold rather than formal certification.
Not always. It adds weight and cost, and on some elevations double glazing with the right coating gets you there. We’ll tell you which applies rather than selling you the more expensive option by default.
More than usual. Passive details are unforgiving, and a system fabricated forty minutes away can be adjusted in days if a survey moves.
